West Carter Comes Up Short Against Russell

West Carter lost another close game this past Friday as they fell 9-14 to Russell.

The five losses for the Comets are by a combined 23 points. They have lost all five of those games by an average of 4.6 points. With the win, Russell has won their last two games and three of their last four.

Russell would strike first on a 27-yard touchdown run by Elijah Hankins. After the successful PAT, the Red Devils would lead 7-0.

West Carter would get on the scoreboard after a 25-yard field goal by Wyatt Martin. After a fumble on the kickoff, West Carter would immediately get the ball back with 3:54 left in the 1st quarter. Wyatt Martin would attempt a 38-yard field goal that would miss, and the score would stand 7-3 in favor of Russell.

After back-to-back punts by both teams, Russell had a 4th and 1. Red Devils’ QB, Ethan Pack would break a 26-yard touchdown run. After the successful PAT, the Red Devils would lead 14-3 with 5:04 remaining in the first half.

The Comets’ running back, Dwaylon Dean would break a 55-yard touchdown with about 3 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter to bring the Comets to within 5 points at 14-9. That would prove to be the final score of the game, and the Russell Red Devils were able to escape with the victory.

The Comets QB, Hayden Hall would struggle completing only 5 of 17 passes for 37 yards and he threw 2 INTs. Dwaylon Dean would carry the ball 23 times for 126 yards and 1 TD. Peyton Walker would finish the game with 12 tackles including 1.5 tackles for loss.

The Red Devils would be led by QB, Ethan Pack. Ethan would only complete 1 of 5 passes, however, he would run the ball 24 times for 127 yards and 1 TD. Elijah Hankins would carry the ball 8 times for 51 yards and 1 touchdown. Parker Mitchell and Ethan Pack would each get in interception in the winning effort.

Russell (4-3) will return to action this coming Friday, October 6th, when they host Lewis County (2-4). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

West Carter (1-5) will look to snap their 2-game losing streak this coming Friday, October 6th, when they host Bath County (1-5). Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
