Skyhawks Turn Showdown Into Rout Over Miners

In the most highly anticipated game in West Virginia this week, the 4th-ranked Scott Skyhawks flexed their muscle at home as they defeated the 5th-ranked Mingo Central Miners, 50-20, in front of the home crowd in West Madison on Friday.

The Skyhawks (6-0) took a stranglehold on the game early and built a 29-0 lead. The Miners (5-1) were able to score a couple of times before the half, however Scott held a 36-14 lead at the intermission.

Matt Frye led the Skyhawks by completing 16-of-23 passes for 326 yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also had 4 carries for 24 yards and 1 touchdown.

Preston Cooper led Scott on the ground with 26 carries for 166 yards and 1 touchdown. Carson Brinegar had 6 carries for 26 yards and 3 catches for 46 yards. He also scored 1 touchdown.

Brayden Clark was Frye’s top target, hauling in 6 passes for 195 yards and 2 touchdowns. Isaiah Bush had 4 catches for 49 yards and 1 touchdown. Jax McCarty added 3 catches for 35 yards and 1 touchdown. He also added an interception on defense.

Ty Mitchell had a good game on defense, racking up 7 tackles, including 3 for a loss, and a forced fumble.

For Mingo Central, Chris Ross completed 14-of-30 passes for 194 yards, 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. He also carried the ball 11 times for 69 yards.

Dylan Vance had 15 carries for 72 yards and 1 touchdown. Donavon Valdelamar had 37 yards on 4 rushing attempts. Nathan Hynd added 12 yards on 1 carry.

Malaki Sheppard had 3 catches for 86 yards and 1 touchdown. Aidan Burke caught 5 passes for 60 yards and 1 touchdown. Vance caught 4 passes for 48 yards.

Sheppard had 11 tackles on defense. Tyler Mitchem had an interception.

Mingo Central will look to rebound next week at Point Pleasant in a 7 pm match up.

Scott will travel to Logan next Friday for a game at 7 pm.
