Tomcats Take Care Of Business Against Vikings

Written By: JMF

Ashland would continue its dominance this season in a shut out of Rowan County, 48-0. The Tomcats entered last night’s contest averaging 46.8 points per game. Rowan County, a young team, would try to slow down the game and limit the time that the Tomcats would be on offense. However, although the Vikings strategy would limit the Tomcats offense, it would not completely stall out the offensive power that Ashland Blazer has shown all season.

The Tomcats would strike first when Braxton Jennings would run in for an 11-yard touchdown. Leading 7-0, Jennings would go to work again and break a 58-yard touchdown run. With the Tomcats leading 14-0, Brandon Houston would connect with Jennings for a 15-yard touchdown pass. The score at Halftime would stand 21-0 in favor of the Tomcats.

After Ashland turned the ball over to start the 3rd quarter, the Vikings would go to work to try to get back into the game. However, the Vikings would throw an interception to Atayveon Thomas, and he would run it back for a touchdown. The Tomcats would score again on a Cam Davis 48-yard touchdown run.

The Tomcats defense would step up again, this time Cam Davis would get an interception and return it to the house for another defensive touchdown. Keshawn Norman would cap off the Tomcats’ scoring with a 6-yard touchdown run.

Ashland would finish the game with 374 yards rushing and 48 yards passing. Rowan County would finish the game with 78 yards rushing and 44 yards passing.

Rowan County tailback Cameron Cross would have 5 carries for 48 yards to lead the team in rushing yards. Madden Owen would carry the ball 4 times for 40 yards. Vikings’ QB Abram Nordem was 5 of 13 for 44 yards and had 2 INTs.

Ashland was led in rushing by Atayveon Thomas who had 5 carries for 96 yards. Cam Davis had 3 carries for 81 yards, while Braxton Jennings had 3 carries for 69 yards. Tomcats’ QB Brandon Houston was 4 of 9 for 48 yards passing.

Ashland Blazer (7-0) will travel to Boyd County (3-3) next week, Friday Oct. 6th, for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.

Rowan County (1-5) will host Johnson Central (4-3) next week, Thursday Oct. 5th for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
