Friday Night Football Preview: Panthers Hit The Road To Clash with the Lions

Written By: JMF

Lewis County (2-3), fresh off their strong performance against Bath County, welcomes the Fleming County Panthers (3-2) this Friday, September 29th.

Fleming County is looking to bounce back after last week’s disappointing loss to Russell. The Panthers are looking for consistency on both sides of the ball. Consistency has been an issue all season. One week they look like a team that can dominate, and the next week they struggle.

The Panthers are looking to do a better job defending the pass. They will also be looking to bottle up the reigning D&D Sports player of the week, Braedyn McGlone. McGlone was an absolute beast last week recording 115 yards rushing, 3 rushing TDs, and completing a TD pass. Last week the Panthers defense gave up 134 rushing yards and 2 rushing TDs to Russell QB, Ethan Pack. There must be a focus on keeping McGlone in check to prevent a similar performance this week.

Offensively, the Panthers must get back to their identity and be able to run the football. The Panthers’ workhorse, Austin Trent, was held to only 63 yards rushing and was kept out of the endzone. Trent is averaging 122.6 yards rushing per game and has 6 TDs on the season. For the Panthers to get back to their winning ways, they need a big game from Trent.

The Panthers also need the best version of Nate Martin. Martin struggled last week against Russell throwing 4 INTs and only 1 TD. Martin had only thrown 1 interception on the season entering last week’s game. Martin has completed 45 of 83 passes on the season and has thrown 5 TDs. Martin needs to get back to his consistent self this week against Lewis County.

Lewis County is looking to get their second straight victory. After Lewis County had given up a combined 105 points in the previous two weeks heading into last week’s matchup with Bath County, the Lions defense stepped up in a strong way and held Bath County to only 8 points. The Lions’ defense must be up to the challenge this week when facing a Fleming County offense that can put up a lot of points.

Offensively, Lewis County will be looking to get Braedyn McGlone going again this week. However, McGlone isn’t the only weapon that the Lions have offensively. QB, Ayden Cooper has completed 57 of 116 passes for 711 yards and 6 TDs, while only throwing 3 INTs on the season. WR Julian Puente is having a terrific season with 36 receptions for 426 yards and 5 TDs.

It’s the Lions vs. the Panthers this Friday, September 29th. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. You do not want to miss this game!
