The Lawrence County Bulldogs returned to action, after having a bye week, and traveled to Harlan County to take on the Black Bears. Harlan County was looking for their first win of the season. Lawrence County was looking to build off their impressive win over Perry County Central.
Harlan County would strike first when Ethan Rhymer connected with Jacob Sage for a 90-yard TD pass. The Black Bears would convert the 2-point conversion and take the early 8-0 lead. However, the lead would be short lived. Lawrence County QB, Talan Pollock would connect with Carlo Chicko for a 44-yard TD pass, and after Eli Fletcher ran in the 2-point conversion, the score was tied 8-8. Talan Pollock would connect with Jake Derifield for a 32-yard TD pass to put the Bulldogs ahead 14-8. Lawrence County would never look back.
William McDavid would run in for a 4-yard TD run to put the Bulldogs in front 20-8, and Talan Pollock would run in for the 2-point conversion to make the score 22-8 in the 2nd Quarter. The Black Bears would battle back, when Thomas Jordan returned the kickoff back 65 yards for a TD. The score stood 22-14 in favor of the Bulldogs. Talan Pollock would air it out again for the Bulldogs when he connected with Dalton Runyons for a 49-yard TD pass to push the lead to 28-14.
Lawrence County would come out of halftime, and resume command of the game. Cody Crum would rush for a 10-yard TD, and Pollock would run in for the 2-point conversion to give the Bulldogs full control of the game, with a score of 36-14. William McDavid would scamper for a 4-yard TD run, and once again Pollock would run in for the 2-point conversion, and the Bulldogs led 44-14. Ethan Rhymer would connect with Carter Howard for a 56-yard TD pass to bring the score to 44-20 in favor of the Bulldogs. That would be the final score of the game.
The Bulldogs were led offensively by Talan Pollock who completed 12 of 27 passes for 205 yards and 3 TDs, and he also ran the ball 4 times for 34 yards. Willliam McDavid carried the ball 13 times for 78 yards and 2 TDs. Cavan Williams ran 3 times for 63 yards. Cody Crum carried the ball 11 times for 47 yards and 1 TD. Dalton Runyons had 2 catches for 66 yards and 1 TD. Carlo Chicko had 4 receptions for 62 yards and 1 TD. Jake Derifield had 2 receptions for 36 yards and 1 TD. The Bulldogs ran the ball 35 times for 216 yards, while passing for 205 yards, for a total of 421 yards offensively.
Harlan County was led by Ethan Rhymer who completed 5 of 12 passes for 157 yards and 2 TDs. Jacob Sage had 1 reception for 90 yards and 1 TD. Carter Howard had 1 reception for 56 yards and 1 TD. Harlan County ran the ball a total of 22 times, but was only able to manage 20 yards rushing, while passing for 157 yards, for a total of 177 yards offensively.
Lawrence County (3-1) will host Estill County (3-2) on Friday, September 22nd for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
Harlan County (0-5) has a bye week and will return to action on Friday, September 29th when they travel to take on Southwestern for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
