Comets Zoom To First Win Of The Season

Coach Daniel Barker and the West Carter Comets entered Friday night’s contest looking for their first win of the season. Coming off of back-to-back 1 point losses, the Comets were looking to get over the hump and get into the win column. West Carter wasted little time and took control of the game early. Dwaylon Dean would run for a 35-yard TD, and the Comets would go ahead 7-0 after the PAT. Powell County would score on an Aiden Larrison 1-yard TD. Powell County was unsuccessful on the 2-point conversion, and the score stood at 7-6 with West Carter in front. 17 seconds later, Dwaylon Dean would run for a 48-yard TD, and after the PAT, West Carter was in front 14-6. Dean would score his third touchdown on a 1-yard run in the second quarter to push the lead to 21-6. Ethan Bledsoe (West Carter) would pick up a Powell County fumble and return it for a 54-yard TD to extend West Carter’s lead to 28-6. Powell County would find the endzone just before halftime on a Aiden Larrison 66-yard TD run to bring the score to 28-12.

West Carter would continue their domination through the 2nd half. Dean would score his 4th TD early in the third quarter on a 1-yard TD run to push the lead to 35-12. Just under the three-minute mark in the 3rd quarter, Hayden Hall would connect with Isaiah Bond for a 55-yard TD pass and the lead stood at 41-12. West Carter would get a safety in the 4th quarter on a fumble through the endzone, and the lead was 43-12. Hayden Hall would throw his 2nd TD when he connected with Kadin Thompson on a 9-yard TD pass that pushed the lead to 50-12. Powell County would score a late 4th quarter TD when TJ Strange ran for an 11-yard TD to bring the score to 50-20 after the 2-point conversion. Behind Dean’s strong performance, West Carter would record their 1st victory on the season with the convincing 50-20 victory over Powell County.

West Carter was led offensively by Dwaylon Dean who had 19 carries for 244 yards and 4 TDs. Hayden Hall was 6 of 10 for 164 yards, 2 TDs and 1 INT. Isaiah Bond had 2 receptions for 92 yards and 1 TD. Kaiden Thompson had 2 receptions for 59 yards and 1 TD. West Carter had 261 yards on the ground and 164 yards through the air for a total of 425 yards.

Powell County was led by Aiden Larrison who had 12 carries for 108 yards and 2 TDs. TJ Strange added 7 carries for 75 yards and 1 TD. Julian Lopez had 17 carries for 66 yards. Aiden Larrison was 5 of 7 through the air for 44 yards. Powell County ran for 281 yards and threw for 44 yards for a total of 325 yards.

West Carter (1-3) returns to action on Friday, Sept. 22nd when they travel to face-off in the battle of Carter County against East Carter (2-2) for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. Powell County (0-4) will host Fairview (1-4) on Friday, Sept. 22nd for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
