The Chapmanville Middle School Tigers cruised to a 41-0 victory last Thursday against the Poca Middle School Dots. CMS was lead in the game from outstanding performances from QB Dakota Dalton (8th) and RB’s Jacob Maynard (8th) and Jaxton Ellison (8th).
Maynard opened the game with a long kickoff return and then scampered in from 21 yards out to give CMS a 7-0 lead. From that point on, CMS scored on a Jaxton Ellison run, a Dakota Dalton pass to David Browning (8th), and two punt returns for TDs, one from Ellison and one from Dalton.
The Tigers defense was just as impressive as it limited Poca to zero first downs in the first half. Tony Adkins (8th), Caleb Robinette (8th), Colton Farley (8th), David Browning (8th), Cooper Perry (8th), and Sawyer Dalton (8th) were particular impressive on the defensive side as they stopped many plays in the backfield. In the secondary, Dakota Dalton recorded a one-handed INT and Mattox Sartin had multiple pass breakups in the shutout.
Special Teams play was a bright spot as well as CMS kicker Ashton McClanahan was 5 for 6 on extra point attempts.
CMS returns to action on Thursday when Wayne Middle School travels to Barker Stadium for a 7:00 PM kickoff. The D&D Sports Network will provide coverage starting at 6:50 PM.
