Oceana Downs River View, 12-8

The Oceana Indians picked up a big on Thursday as they defeated River View, 12-8, on the road in middle school football action.

The Indians took a 6-0 lead off a touchdown from quarterback Brayden Waldron. River View fought back and connected on a 60-yard touchdown pass with a little more than 3:00 left on the clock. The two point conversion gave River View an 8-6 advantage.

Oceana was able to drive down to the 29-yard-line before Waldron rushed into the end zone to make it a 12-8 lead. The Indian defense held for the final score.

Defensively, Kaige Osborne, Eric Mitchell, Luke Walls and Malachi King anchored the defensive line for the Indians. Cooper Hatfield also stood strong on defense.

“Credit to my brother Dustin (Tilley), who is the defensive coordinator had a good game plan coming into the game,” said Oceana head coach Justin Tilley. “Defensively, we played pretty good other than the bad communication on the passing touchdown. Offensively, we just got to do better at running the football and making better decisions. Overall, it wasn’t a pretty win, but it’s a win and something we can build off of going into next week. This is a very good confidence booster for our team and players.”

Oceana will host Madison next Thursday. The opening kick is set for 6:30 pm.
