The Logan 10-12 Little League Softball All-Stars got strong pitching performances from Emma Lackey and Zoe Chaney to defeat Hite Saunders, 2-0, on Tuesday in the championship game of the West Virginia Little League Softball Championship in Barboursville.
Logan jumped on the scoreboard early in the top of the first inning as Ayla Vance doubled to left field, bringing home Miley Fleming for a 1-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the top of the fourth inning as Lackey held Hite Saunders at bay. Logan then added its second run as Vance singled to center field to score Fleming again for a 2-0 advantage. Lackey and Chaney would make sure that lead stuck.
Lackey allowed only 2 hits and struck out 7 batters over 4-1/3 innings to pick up the win. Chaney allowed only 1 hit over 1-2/3 innings pitched in relief to close out the game.
At the plate, Vance was 2-of-2 with a double and 2 RBI. Fleming had a triple and 2 runs scored. Kristi Dress added a double. Lackey had a single on the day.
Logan now will represent West Virginia in the Southeast Regional tournament in Warner Robins, GA. The team will report on July 22 and will compete against the champions of Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia in a double elimination format. The winner of that tournament will represent the Southeast Region in the Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, NC.
The Logan All-Stars are made up of Emma Lackey, Katie Hall, Ayla Vance, Rylee Miller, Lilly Fleming, Miley Fleming, Zoe Chaney, Mollie Barnette, Lena Setser, Addison Dotson, Kristi Dress, Addison Starr and Jenna Goff. They are managed by Tommy Dotson. The coaches are Randy Lackey and Keith Adams.
