Derious Johnson was announced as the new boys basketball coach at Huntington St Joe Middle School by St Joe Athletics Director Todd Maynard on Friday.
Johnson is a Huntington native and Huntington High School graduate who began coaching in 2015.
“I am thankful for the opportunity Coach Maynard and Dr Templeton has given me here at St Joe,” said Johnson. “My goal is to help our student-athletes achieve success both on and off the court. I will strive to develop their skills in basketball while also promoting values such as teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership.”
Maynard praised Johnson and expressed enthusiasm about what he brings to the St Joe program.
“We are excited DJ has joined the St. Joe family,” said Maynard. “He is passionate about developing kids both on and off the court. He values what Irish pride is all about. DJ is a great addition to our middle school feeder program.”
