Chapmanville Middle School’s McClanahan Kicking His Way To The Top

Chapmanville Middle School kicker Ashton McClanahan has been turning heads lately.

McClanahan, 13, will be going into the 8th grade in the Fall and is currently ranked as one of the Top 20 kickers in the country by the Ray Guy Prokicker organization. Ray Guy Prokicker ranks prospects based on their performance at its camps. Kicking specialists receive top-notch training while at these camps, so there is a lot of competition. The best kickers from across the country attend these camps, so a lofty ranking is an incredible achievement.

McClanahan ranks 19th among kickers, 19th among punters, 18th among punter/kicker combos, has the 19th strongest leg and ranks 23rd among all kick-off specialists.

He initially played soccer and then converted to being a kicker on the football field. Now, entering his 8th Grade season, McClanahan has some personal goals that he would like to achieve.

He wants to be a kicker for a collegiate football program. McClanahan would also like to someday break Justin Tucker’s NFL record 66-yard field goal.

One unique goal of McClanahan’s is to convert a successful drop kick. He has been practicing it and hopes that the opportunity presents itself at some point.

With his hard work and dedication, the sky seems to be the limit for McClanahan as he he continues to grow and improve.
