Tigers Eliminate Wayne In Sectional Tournament, 2-1

The top seed Chapmanville Tigers defeated the 4th seed Wayne Pioneers, 2-1, on Friday in the sectional tournament at Chapmanville. With the loss, Wayne was eliminated from postseason play.

The Pioneers scored in the top of the 1st inning when Levi Cassidy scored on a fielder’s choice to make it a 1-0 Wayne advantage.

Chapmanville then tied the score up at 1-1 in the bottom of the first inning when Luke Knight scored on Trey Butcher’s sacrifice fly. The Tigers then took the lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning when Knight singled to right field to bring home Joey Canterbury for a 2-1 advantage. From there, no one scored as the Tigers moved on.

On the mound, Andrew Farley got the win after allowing only 1 run on 3 hits with 1 strikeout over 4 innings. Logan Prater was great in defeat for Pioneers, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits with 4 strikeouts in 6 innings pitched to get the loss.

Chapmanville will play at Logan on Saturday in the Sectional Championship round.
