The 4th seed Wayne Pioneers got a shut out pitching performance from Levi Cassidy as they knocked off the 3rd seed Scott Skyhawks as they advanced in the sectional tournament on Thursday. The Skyhawks saw their season come to an end with the loss.
For the Pioneers, Cassidy was 2-of-3 with 2 RBI. Logan Prater was 2-of-3 with 1 RBI and 1 run scored. Levi Queen was 2-of-2 with 1 run scored. Brayden Jackson and Parker Adkins had a double each. Brady Dyer and Braxton Marcum each had singles.
Griffin Miller, Caleb Vance and Hayden Johnson all had singles for the Pioneers.
On the mound, Cassidy allowed on 3 hits and struck out 5 batters over 7 innings pitched. Johnson was given the loss for Scott.
The Pioneers will next play at top seed Chapmanville on Friday.
