Chapmanville’s Jill Blevins and Emma Bryant Both recently broke the school record for wins. The duo now has 137 wins each, and the Tigers roll into the state championship with a very strong squad.
Blevins, a senior, and Bryant, a junior have each had fantastic careers.
Blevins was the first girl to win first team all-state and the first to make the finals in singles during her sophomore year. She has qualified for the state tournament all three years.
Bryant has been to two state finals and won the No. 3 singles last year. She was undefeated in singles last year and qualified for both the singles and doubles state tournament twice.
“You don’t have two girls on the same team do this very often,” said Chapmanville head coach Chris Kidd. “Emma and Jill have done a tremendous job. They push themselves as hard as any two players I’ve ever had. That absolutely hate losing and fight for what they want.”
As a team, Chapmanville has been very successful, including a recent Regional Championship. It’s the Tiger’s third in a row. In addition, Chapmanville has won the Cardinal Conference for the past two seasons.
“We don’t achieve this type of success without having a great team all around,” added Kidd. “Right now, we are one of the last teams remaining playing, and we are going to give our best in the state tournament.”
In fact, another Chapmanville player, Carmen Mahon picked up her 100th win this season as well.
Chapmanville’s team consists of:
No. 1 Singles – Courtney Curnutte
No. 2 Singles – Jill Blevins
No. 3 Singles – Natalie Chirico
No. 4 Singles – Emma Bryant
No. 1 Doubles – Jill Blevins and Courtney Curnutte
No. 2 Doubles – Emma Bryant and Carmen Mahon
No. 3 Doubles – Natalie Chirico and Emily Hughes
The Tigers begin their quest for a state title on Thursday at Charleston Catholic’s tennis facility.
