Tug Valley High School has chosen Seth Ooten to serve as the next girls basketball coach.
Ooten, who served as an assistant for the Lady Panthers for the last few seasons, replaces state championship winning head coach Clyde Farley. Farley retired at the end of this past season.
Ooten is excited to lead but says he has some big shoes to fill.
“Coach Farley did a great job building a team and making runs at the state tournament and winning one championship,” said Ooten. “That’s not easy to do coming out of a tough section and region, especially dealing with the pressure that comes along with winning 3 games at the state tournament to become state champions. Work in the offseason is how we replicate those types of accomplishments year after year. This group of girls have shown the kind of work ethic that it will take to have that kind of success.”
Ooten, a 2002 Tug Valley graduate, was a standout in basketball, football and baseball. He was also elected to enter the TVHS Hall of Fame in 2022.
Ooten added that he feels his familiarity with his players will help with a smoother transition.
“I think to have success you have to know your players and how to coach therm,” he added. “Coaching everyone the same way can lead to some unwanted outcomes.”
Tug Valley was in the Class A Region IV Co-final last season and returns a lot of talent for Ooten to work with.
