The Wayne Pioneers scored a lot early and then held on as they defeated the Tug Valley Panthers, 9-1, on Tuesday out Wayne.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning when Parker Adkins singled home Brayden Jackson for a 1-0 lead. Elijah Steele then singled to score two more runs and make it a 3-0 advantage after one inning. Wayne continued to score in the bottom of the second inning when Jackson singled to score Logan Prater.
Wayne scored four more runs in the bottom of the third inning, including two on a Braxton Marcum single to increase the lead to 8-0.
Tug Valley got on the board in the top of the sixth inning when Chandler Copley doubled to bring home Brayden Dotson to make the score 8-1. However, Wayne tacked on a run in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly for the 9-1 win.
On the mound, Steele was able to scatter four hits over 4 innings pitched to get the win. Austin Smith was given the loss for Tug Valley.
The Pioneers will next play at Winfield on Thursday. Tug Valley is set to play at Sherman on Thursday.
