The Scott Skyhawks withstood a Lady Tiger rally before scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning to defeat Chapmanville, 8-7, on Monday in West Madison.
Chapmanville got on the scoreboard first when Brooke Christian scored on an error to take a 1-0 lead. Scott took the lead in the bottom of the first inning when Natalie Green smashed a two-run homer to left field to give the Skyhawks a 2-1 advantage.
Scott extended its lead to 3-1 when Jakayla Gaiter singled home Cambri Barker in the bottom of the second inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Green stepped to the plate and smacked another two-run homer, to left field to make the score 5-1. The Skyhawks got their third homer of the day when Ava Sampson hammered a shot over the center field wall and a 7-1 lead.
Champanville then went to work in the top of the seventh inning. Evy Altizer scored on a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 7-2. Erica Sigmon then smacked a double to to left field, scoring two runs, making it a 7-4 game. Chloe Murphy then launched a pitch to center field for a three-run homer, to tie the score at 7-7.
The Skyhawks didn’t hang their heads when it came their turn to bat and earned the walk off win in the bottom of the seventh inning when Hannah Price singled in Haven Tomblin.
Tatum Halley, picked up the win, allowing 4 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings. Charity Atwood was given the loss for Chapmanville.
Scott is next scheduled to play at Poca on Tuesday. Champanville is set to play at Nitro on Tuesday.
