Pike Central Off To Good Start On The Diamond

The Pike County Central Hawks are off to a strong start this season so far, going 4-2 in the early part of the season.

Pike County Central 12, Magoffin County 2

For the Hawks, Kaden Crum batted 2-for-3 with 2 RBI. Peyton Compton was 2-for-2 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored. Patrick Mandrell also drove in 3 runs and scored 1 run.

On the mound, Cameron Shearer pitched five innings, striking out six batters while only allowing one earned run for the win. Blake Hager pitched one inning of shutout baseball where he struck out all all three batters on only 14 pitches.

Pike County Central 13, Ridgeview, VA 8

At the plate, the Crum led the way by going 2-for-3 with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored. Mandrell was 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 2 runs scored. Compton batted 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored.

Hager got the win in relief, allowing no runs and striking out 4 batters in two innings for Pike County Central.

Pike County Central 8, Martin County 7

Shearer led the Hawks at the plate by batting 1-for-3 with a home run and 4 RBI. Hager was 1-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored. Compton batted 1-for-2 with a run scored and 3 stolen bases.

Isaac Blankenship gave up only 1 hit over two innings pitched to earn the win. Blankenship also struck out a batter in the effort.

Shelby Valley 12, Pike County Central 2

The Shelby Valley Wildcats ended Pike County Central’s winning streak on Thursday, 12-2.

At the plate, Crum was 2-for-2 with one run scored. Warren Newsome was 1-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base.

Hager was given the loss on the mound after allowing 2 earned runs over 3 innings. He did strike out 6 batters, though.

Leslie County 8, Pike County Central 6

Pike County Central was led by Caleb Mouton with a 2-for-4 effort at the plate and two runs batted in. Crum was also 2-for-4 with a run scored. Compton batted 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs scored.

Lucas Anderson was given the loss on the mound for the Hawks.

Pike County Central 8, Magoffin County 5

At the plate, Hager was 3-for-4 with with three RBI and a stolen base. Blankenship was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Newsome batted 2-for-4 with two runs scored.

Shearer earned the win, allowing only one earned run on five hits while striking out seven batters over 4 innings. Hager struck out all five batters he face in relief.

PLAYERS TO WATCH THE REST OF THE SEASON

Kaden Crum is a sophomore shortstop with a big bat. He is off to a great start this season and will be important to the Hawks as the season wears on.

Blake Hager is a junior pitcher and first baseman. Hager has excelled both pitching and hitting for the Hawks.

Caleb Mouton is a junior catcher who has performed well and shows promise.

Peyton Compton is a senior outfielder who has swung the bat well and terrorized the opposition on the base paths.

Cameron Shearer is a junior who has been both solid on the mound and at the plate.
