Joey Gollihue had 22 points to lead the Tug Valley Panthers to a 70-28 win over the Man Hillbillies in the opening round of sectional tournament play on Wednesday in Naugatuck.
The Panthers (20-3) jumped out to a 16-4 advantage after the first period of play. Tug Valley increased its advantage to 35-10 at the half. Man (4-19) continued to fall further behind in the third quarter as the Panther lead grew to 51-17. Tug Valley cruised in the final period.
For Tug Valley, Ashton Davis followed Gollihue with 9 points. Braydun Ferris added 8 points. Parker Davis netted 6 points. Bryson Elia, Carson Newsome, Paul Preece and Buddy Marcum scored 4 points each. Brady Brewer and Kaden Hale dropped in 3 points apiece. Aiden Armstrong chipped in 2 points. Johnathan Wagner chipped in 1 point.
Tray Ward led the Hillbillies with 11 points. Kaleb Mullins fired in 7 points. Devon Sanders and Chris Isaacs scored 3 points each. Landon Cantrell dropped in 2 points. Colton Miller and Cameron Gerace finished with 1 point apiece.
Tug Valley will next host the Tolsia Rebels on Friday in the sectional championship game in Naugatuck.
