The Pike County Central Hawks used a strong second half to defeat the Belfry Pirates, 58-40, on Thursday at Belfry High School in the 60th.
The Pirates (9-23) jumped out to a slim 12-11 lead after the first period. Belfry increased its advantage to 23-20 at the half. Pike County Central (20-8) made some adjustments at the half and stormed back to take a 34-30 lead after the third period. The Hawks put the game away in the fourth quarter, outscoring Belfry, 24-10, in the frame to take the win and the title.
Pike County Central was led by Jaylan Rigdon’s 28 points. Peyton Compton followed with 9 points. Jaden Stewart fired in 8 points. Brad Biliter and Peyton Owens dropped in 4 points each. Blake Adams added 3 points. Isaac Reynolds chipped in 2 points.
Cody Erwin paced Belfry with 15 points. Noah Brown and Eric Daniels followed with 9 points each. Cayden Varney added 5 points. Caden Woolum finished with 2 points.
Both teams will now wait to see who they play in the 15th Region tournament.
