The Martin County Lady Cardinals picked up a 53-48 win on Thursday to capture the 57th District championship against the Paintsville Lady Tigers in Paintsville.
The Lady Cardinals (25-5) jumped out to a 14-8 lead after the first period and held a 24-18 advantage at the half. Martin County stretched out its lead to 36-28 after three periods. However, Paintsville (19-11) did not go away quietly and battle back but fell short in its bid to capture the district title.

Martin County was led by Alyssa Allen’s 16 points. Laken Williams followed with 15 points. Brooke Marcum scored 13 points. Katie Marcum chipped in 9 points.
Paintsville was paced by Kylie Kinner with 22 points. Emilea Preece fired in 12 points. Kali Mulcahy fired in 9 points. Camryn Helton dropped in 5 points.
Both teams now wait to see who they play in the 15th Region tournament.
