Martin County Snaps Eight Game Losing Skid To Advance In 57th District Tournament

The Martin County Cardinals broke an eight game losing streak to defeat the Johnson Central Golden, 62-59, Eagles in the in 57th District Tournament on Wednesday in Paintsville.

The Cardinals (20-10) jumped out to a 15-10 lead after the first period of play. The Golden Eagles (14-16) stormed back in the second frame and took a 28-23 lead into the locker room at the half. Each team scored 18 points in the third quarter before Martin County outscored Johnson Central, 21-13, in the final period to earn the huge win.

Luke Hale paced the Cardinals with 24 points. Brayden McKenzie added 17 points. Peyton Davis had 8 points. Dray Duff and Devan Maynard followed with 5 points each. Jacob Sturgell chipped in 3 points.

Johnson Central was led past by Austin Slone’s 24 points. David Fink followed with 14 points. Ryan Rose had 11 points and 16 rebounds. Mason Lawson added 7 points. Brayden Shepherd finished with 3 points.

Martin County will next play on Friday when it plays Paintsville in the 57th District title game. The tip off is set for 7 pm.
