Gollihue’s Huge Fourth Quarter Lifts Panthers Over Westside

Joey Gollihue scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to lead the 2nd-ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers to a comeback win over the Westside Renegades, 78-60, on Tuesday in Naugatuck.

The Renegades (9-12) jumped out early and took a 21-13 lead after the opening period. Tug Valley (19-3) only shaved one point off Westside’s lead in the second quarter as the advantage stood at 40-33 at the half. The Panthers cut into the lead even more in the third frame and cut the Renegades’ lead to 52-51 heading into the fourth quarter. Gollihue and the Panthers took over as they outscored Westside 27-8 to pull away with the win.

Gollihue led the Panthers with 31 points. Braydun Ferris followed with 14 points and 8 assists. Ashton Davis and Parker Davis scored 10 points each. Ashton Davis also recorded 8 assists. Buddy Marcum netted 6 points. Johnathan Wagner fired in 5 points. Kaden Hale chipped in 2 points.

Westside was led by Colton Lester’s 17 points. Hunter Lester and Bryson Blankenship fired in 12 points each. Parker Lambert followed with 10 points. Dale Bledsoe scored 9 points in the loss.

Tug Valley’s regular season ends a 19-3. The Panthers will play in the sectional tournament next week.

Westside will face Independence at home on Friday.
