The Floyd Central Lady Jaguars blasted the Prestonsburg Lady Blackcats, 82-49, to advance to the 58th District Championship on Monday in Louisa.
The Lady Jaguars (19-9) got out to a slim 18-17 lead over Prestonsburg (12-18). Floyd Central began to pull away in the second quarter and took a 44-30 lead into the locker room at the half. If the Lady Blackcats had any hopes of a comeback, they were dashed in the third period as Floyd Central held an 18-6 advantage in the frame to make it a 62-36 lead heading into the final quarter. The Lady Jaguars were able to coast from there.
Madilyn Meade led Floyd Central with 36 points. Kennedy Harvel added 12 points. Chelsea Johnson followed with 10 points. Riley Compton and Jada Johnson added 8 points each. Allie Hamilton, Chloe Crase, Kaylee Hall and Carmen Rackey finished with 2 points apiece.
Celina Mullins paced Prestonsburg with 20 points. Kylie Tackett followed with 7 points. Allison Howard had 6 points. Haley Lafferty scored 5 points. Jade Fitzpatrick netted 4 points. Halee Conn fired in 3 points. Sierra Slone and Amelia Newsome chipped in 2 points each.
Floyd Central will now play Lawrence County on Wednesday in the 58th District title game. The opening tip is set for 7 pm.
