The Lenore Rangers got 14 points from Preston May as they defeated the Williamson Wolfpack, 34-26, on Thursday night to win the Mingo County Boys Basketball Championship at the Williamson Field House.
The Rangers jumped out to an 11-5 lead after the first period, thanks to 6 points from May and 5 points from Cameron Slone. Lenore held a 16-10 advantage at the intermission. May scored 5-of-10 points for the Rangers in the third frame to take a 26-16 lead into the final quarter. Williamson outscored Lenore 10-8 in fourth period, but it wasn’t enough as Lenore was able to cut down the nets.
Slone, Trenton Hager and Jarron Holyfield followed May with 5 points each for the Rangers. Ashton Evans dropped in 4 points. Sawyer Heflin chipped in 1 point.
Quentin Warren paced the Wolfpack with 12 points. Davion Joplin added 7 points. Greg Williams dropped in 3 points. Derek Jewell and Landen Sawyers added 2 points each.
