The 2nd-ranked (Class AAA) Wayne Lady Pioneers used a strong second quarter to break the game open and defeat the visiting Scott Lady Hawks, 69-48, on Monday out Wayne for the Lady Pioners’ senior night.
Both teams came out and played evenly in the opening frame as the Lady Pioneers (21-1) and Lady Hawks (5-16) were knotted up at 17-17. Wayne started clicking in the second frame and outscored Scott, 19-7, to take a 36-24 lead into the locker room at the intermission. The Lady Pioneers continued to stretch out the lead in the third quarter and took a 51-35 advantage into the final period. From there, Wayne secured the win for its seniors.
Brooke Adkins led the Lady Pioneers with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Addie Adkins had 13 points. Mikayla Stacy followed with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Laneigh Brooks fired in 8 points. Shelby Anderson had 7 points. Kiya Brown netted 4 points. Cheyenne Williams chipped in 3 points and 6 rebounds.
Scott was led by Haven Tomblin and Cheyenne Robinson’s 15 points. Robinson also pulled down 11 rebounds. Kelsey Harper fired in 12 points and had 6 rebounds. Jenna Butcher added 6 points in the win.
The Lady Pioneers have now concluded and will enter sectional tournament play with a 21-1 record. Scott will finish its regular season on Thursday at home against Sherman in a 7 pm contest.
