Lady Cardinals Win At Tug Valley, 59-53

The Martin County Lady Cardinals picked up a nice win on Thursday, defeating the 9th-ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Lady Panthers, 59-53, in Naugatuck.

The Lady Cardinals (21-4) jumped out quickly and took a 15-7 lead at the end of the first period. Tug Valley (7-8) roared back in the second quarter to cut Martin County’s lead to 26-23 at the half. It was a nip and tuck game throughout the second half. The Lady Cardinals led 38-35 after three quarters and held on in the final quarter to get the win.

Katie Marcum led the way for Martin County with 22 points. Alyssa Allen followed with 11 points. Laken Williams added 10 points. Brooke Marcum fired in 7 points. Kennadi Mollett, Chloe May and Sophie Harless scored 3 points each.

Tug Valley was paced by Kenzie Browning’s 23 points. Bailee Hall followed with 12 points. Haven Deskins fired in 10 points. Haley Gillman netted 6 points. Kristin Fields fired in 2 points.

Martin County will next play West Carter on Monday at home at 7:30 pm.

Tug Valley will play at GIlmer County on Wednesday at 7 pm.
