The 3rd-ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers made a statement on Wednesday by defeating 2nd-ranked (Class A) Webster County, 69-59, at the Par Mar Shootout at West Virginia State University in Institute.
The Panthers (15-3) jumped out to a 14-2 lead before Webster County (13-5) scored 10-straight points to cut Tug Valley’s lead to 14-12 after the first period. Webster County continued its momentum and took a 35-34 advantage into the locker room at the half.
The Panthers came out of the locker room and took control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Webster County, 17-5, to take a 51-40 lead heading into the final quarter. From there, Tug Valley held Webster County at bay and finished the game off with a thunderous Parker Davis dunk in the closing seconds.
Ashton Davis and Parker Davis led the Panthers with 25 points each. Joey Gollihue followed with 9 points. Braydun Ferris fired in 4 points. Kaden Hale, Johnathan Wagner and Buddy Marcum each had 2 points each.
Webster County was led by Rayden Triplett with 27 points.
The Panthers will play at home on Saturday when they host Belfry at 7:30 pm.
