The top-ranked (Class AA) Mingo Central Lady Miners used a stifling defense to defeat the 7th-ranked (Class A) Gilmer County Lady Titans, 45-32, on Wednesday in the Par Mar Shootout at West Virginia State University in Institute.
The Lady Miners (18-1) took a 9-4 lead in the first quarter before extending the lead to 22-10 at the half. Mingo Central pushed the lead to 32-19 at the end of the third period and cruised from there.
Jenna Sparks led the Lady Miners with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks. Addie Smith followed with 13 points, 7 assists and 7 rebounds. Bella Hall had 7 points. Alyssa Davis and DaLaney Grimmett added 4 points each. Megan Adkins finished with 2 points in the win.
Mingo Central will next play at Summers County on Saturday at 5 pm.
