The Belfry Pirates defeated the Mullins Tigers, 59-34, on Wednesday to win the Pike County Championship in Phelps.
The Pirates jumped out of the gate quickly, gaining an 11-6 advantage after the first quarter. Belfry extended its lead over the Tigers to 22-14 at the intermission. The Pirates’ lead slowly grew to 33-23 after the third period before the Pirates outscored the Tigers, 26-11, to put the game away.
Zade Rash led the Pirates with 17 points. Tyler Weddington followed with 16 points. Bryce Hagy had 14 points. JB Woolum had 6 points. Carter Jude dropped in 4 points. Dante Davis chipped in 2 points.
For his efforts, Rash was named MVP of the tournament. Tyler Weddington, Carter Jude, Bryce Hagy and JB Woolum were also named to the all-tournament team for the Pirates.
Jamere Knuckles led Mullins with 8 points. Grant Hall, Caden Lawson and Colton Young finished with 7 points each. Colton Ratliff added 3 points. Jonah Hicks finished with 2 points.
