The 3rd-ranked (Class AA) Chapmanville Tigers jumped ahead early but stumbled down the stretch as they fell to the 2nd-ranked (Class AA) Bluefield Beavers, 74-63, on Tuesday in the Par Mar Shootout at West Virginia State University in Institute.
The Tigers (14-2) jumped out to a 19-12 advantage after the opening quarter, but Bluefield (11-4) battled back to cut the Tiger lead to 31-29 at the half. Chapmanville held a nine point lead at one point in the second quarter, but Brody Dalton went down with an ankle injury and didn’t return.
The Beavers took control in the third quarter with Dalton absent by outscoring Chapmanville, 22-13, to take a 51-44 lead. Bluefield extended its lead in the final period to capture a huge win.
Zion Blevins led the Tigers with 21 points and 16 rebounds. Sal Dean followed with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. Isaiah Smith fired in 9 points. Dalton dropped in 6 points in limited action. Sam Miller scored 5 points. Devon Workman chipped in 2 points.
Caleb Fuller led Bluefield with 18 points. William Looney Followed with 17 points. Sencere Fields fired in 16 points. Kamron Gore added 13 points. Reginald Hairston dropped in 8 points. Braden Fong finished with 2 points.
Chapmanville will next play on Friday in a clash against rival Logan. The opening tip is set for 7 pm.
