Lady Miners Defeat Wyoming East To Win Battle For The Springhouse

The 2nd-ranked (Class AA) Mingo Central Lady Miners defeated the top-ranked (Class AA) Wyoming East Lady Warriors, 45-39, on Saturday to win the Battle For The Springhouse at The Greenbrier.

It was the Lady Miners’ (17-1) second win over Wyoming East (14-3) this season to hold a 2-1 head-to-head record over the Lady Warriors this year. Mingo Central still hasn’t been ranked above Wyoming East once, despite the earlier win. That may change once the new poll is released.

Mingo Central jumped out to a strong start to take a 13-5 advantage after the first quarter of play . The Lady Miners pushed their lead to 23-14 at the half. Wyoming East slightly cut into the lead during the third quarter to make it 29-22 heading into the final frame. The Lady Miners were able to hold on and pick up the huge win.

Mingo Central was led by Addie Smith’s 17 points. DaLaney Grimmett followed with 10 points. Jenna Sparks had 6 points and 11 rebounds. Alsyssa Davis, Bella Hall and Madisyn Curry finished with 4 points each.

Cadee Blackburn paced Wyoming East with 13 points. Maddie Clark finished with 10 points.

Mingo Central will next play Gilmer County in the Par Mar Shootout at West Virginia State University on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
