Tug Valley Slips Past Belfry In Hatfield-McCoy Shootout, 62-49

The 3rd-ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers pulled away in the fourth quarter to defeat the Belfry Pirates, 62-49, on Friday in the Hatfield-McCoy Shootout at the Williamson Field House.

The Panthers (12-3) jumped out of the gate quickly, taking a 12-6 lead after the first period. Belfry (5-17) played Tug Valley evenly in the second quarter to make the score 26-20 at the half. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter before the Panthers outscored Belfry 23-16 in the final frame to pull away with the win.

Ashton Davis led the way for Tug Valley with 19 points. Joey Gollihue followed with 17 points. Buddy Marcum added 10 points. Kaden Hale dropped in 7 points. Braydun Ferris netted 5 points. Johnathan Wagner and Paul Preece chipped in 2 points each.

For Belfry, Cody Erwin and Jonathan Banks led the way with 17 points each. Cayden Varney dropped in 6 points. Caden Woolum added 4 points. Kaleb Hensley scored 3 points. Noah Brown chipped in 2 points.

Belfry will return to action on Saturday to battle Mingo Central at 7 pm in the Hatfield-McCoy Shootout. Tug Valley will play immediately after at 8:30 pm against Shelby Valley. Both games will be at the Williamson Field House.
