Pikeville’s Strong Second Half Propels Them Past Lady Bulldogs, 68-53

The Pikeville Lady Panthers amped up the physicality in the second half as they pulled away from the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs for a 68-53 win on Tuesday in Pikeville.

The Lady Bulldogs (17-5) came out of the gate strong with Kensley Feltner firing in 8 points to help them gain a 19-13 lead after the first quarter. Feltner finished with 13 points in the half as Lawrence County maintained a 32-28 lead.

Pikeville head coach Kristy Orem made some adjustments at the half, and the Lady Panthers (19-5) started finding success in the third frame. The more physical Lady Panthers outscored Lawrence County, 22-15, to take a 50-47 lead. Trinity Rowe had 7 points in the quarter to lead way. Rowe then connected on two of her six 3-point field goals in the final period as the Lady Panthers pulled away for the win.

Rowe led the way with 26 points. Kristen Whited followed with 16 points. Leighan Jackson netted 11 points. Rylee Theiss had 9 points and snagged 14 rebounds. Kyera Thornsbury dropped 6 points.

Feltner led the Lady Bulldogs with 23 points. Sophie Adkins followed with 9 points. Kaison Ward added 8 points. Leandra Curnutte scored 7 points. Abby Nelson added 6 points in the loss.

Pikeville will next play on Wednesday at Shelby Valley. The opening tip is set for 7:30 pm. Lawrence County is set to play at Morgan County on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
