Lady Miners Hold On To Knock Off Tolsia, 58-50

The 2nd-ranked (Class AA) held off a fourth quarter rally to defeat the 8th-ranked (Class A) Tolsia Lady Rebels, 58-50, on Saturday at Mingo Central High School.

The Lady Miners (15-1) held a slim 5-3 advantage after a low-scoring first quarter of action. Mingo Central then held a 19-16 lead at the intermission. The Lady Miners had a huge third quarter, outscoring Tolsia (10-8), 20-5, to take a 39-21 lead into the final quarter. The Lady Rebels staged a furious comeback in the fourth quarter, but came up short after holding a 29-19 advantage in the frame.

Addie Smith led the Lady Miners with 20 points. Madisyn Curry followed with 16 points and 14 rebounds. Jenna Sparks added 12 points and 8 rebounds. Bella Hall contributed 6 points and 6 assists. Alyssa Davis fired in 3 points. DaLaney Grimmett finished with 1 point.

Mingo Central next plays on Tuesday at Lincoln County. The tip is set for 7 pm.

Tolsia will play at Lincoln County on Thursday in a 6 pm clash.
