The fourth-ranked (Class A) Tug Valley Panthers got 32 points and 9 rebounds from Joey Gollihue as they defeated the visiting Spring Valley Timberwolves, 77-61, on Saturday in Naugatuck.
Tug Valley (10-3) jumped out of the gate quickly, outscoring Spring Valley (10-6), 20-14. The Panthers extended their advantage to 37-27 at the end of the first half. Tug Valley put the game away in the third period, using a 24-14 advantage to take a 61-41 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Ashton Davis followed Gollihue with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Parker Davis added 14 points. Johnathan Wagner dropped in 4 points. Paul Preece netted 3 points. Braydun Ferris, Bryson Elia and Buddy Marcum finished with 2 points each. Ferris also dished out 8 assists.
Spring Valley was led by Tate Adkins’ 23 points. Clay Robertson followed with 16 points. Ty Smith fired in 10 points. Kenyan Grayson, Colton Caldwell and Luke Larsen finished with 4 points each.
Tug Valley will next play on Tuesday in a clash at Van. Spring Valley travels to Dawson-Bryant (OH) on Tuesday.
