Lady Cards Handle Johnson Central For Third Straight District Win

The Martin County Lady Cardinals finished off their third consecutive district foe on Wednesday by defeating the Johnson Central Lady Eagles, 66-46, at Johnson Central.

The Lady Cardinals (15-4) jumped all over the Lady Eagles (16-5) with a 22-12 lead after the first quarter. Martin County extended the lead to 36-23 at the half. The lead continued to grow in the third quarter as Martin County stretched out its advantage to 53-35. The Lady Cards kept their lead throughout the final frame.

Martin County also picked up recent district wins over over Paintsville and Magoffin County.

Laken Williams led Martin County with 28 points. Katie Marcum followed with 14 points. Kennadi Mollett fired in 9 points. Alyssa Allen netted 8 points. Brooklyn Marcum dropped in 5 points. Candace Spaulding chipped in 2 points in the win.

Johnson Central was paced by Kaylyn McKenzie and Sophie Younce with 13 points apiece. McKinley Cantrell added 8 points. Becca Wright dropped in 4 points. Adyson Burchett and Haylee Marsillett scored 3 points each. Abbie Stambaugh chipped in 2 points.

Martin County will next host Barbourville on Saturday in a 6 pm contest. Johnson Central hosts Floyd Central on Tuesday at 7:30 pm.
