On Friday, two of the top girls teams in the 15th Region squared off in Louisa. The Floyd Central Lady Jags would face off against the Lawrence County Lady Bulldogs with first place on the line in the 58th district.
The two heavyweights traded punches and finished the first quarter tied at 12. In the second Floyd Central flexed their offensive muscles and out scored Lawrence County 17-9 to take the eight point lead at the half 29-21. In the third, Lawrence County’s Kensley Feltner took over and tied the game at the end of the 3rd quarter, 46 all. In the end, the Lady Dawgs were victorious in this one 68-66.
For Floyd Central, they placed 4 players in double figures in scoring. The Lady Jags were led by Maddi Meade. Meade had 15 points and 8 rebounds. Kennedy Harvel chipped in 14 points. Fellow senior Jada Johnson recorded a double double with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Chelsea Johnson chipped in with 10 points.
Lawrence County was led by their Miss Basketball candidate, Kensley Feltner. Feltner finished the night with 35 points and 12 rebounds. Feltner made a living at the foul line going 15-16. Sophie Adkins added 14 points including 7-8 from the charity strip.
The win pushes Lawrence County’s record to 14-4 on the season and 3-0 on District play. The loss drops the Lady Jags to 11-7 on the season and 2-1 in district play. Both teams are in action on Saturday.
