As seen on the D&D Sports Network, Tuesday night the Shelby Valley Wildcats traveled up on the hill to Floyd Central for a crucial 15th Region matchup against the Jaguars. In a back and forth contest, Shelby Valley pushed away winning 66-57.
Shelby Valley missing their leading scorer and rebounder Riley Phillips did not miss a beat. The Wildcats controlled the tempo and ran an efficient and balanced offensive attack. The Wildcats shot 60.5% (23-38)from the field and 41.7% (8-17) from behind the arch. The Wildcats balanced attack placed 4 players in double figures. Chaz Brown led the team in scoring with 16 points and was named Mingua Beef Jerky Co-Player of the Game alongside of Ethan Sykes. Brown had most of his scoring in the first half while Sykes scored the majority of his 13 points in the second half. Caleb Lovins added 12 while Preston Johnson chipped in with 11. Russ Brown and Collier Fuller rounded out the Wildcat scoring with 7 points each.
For Floyd Central, it was Braden Moore who led the way. Moore came out “hot” hitting 3 three pointers in the first quarter on his way to a game high 21 points. Dawson Moore added 7 first half points on his way to 10 points. Ronnie Sammons and Chris Spriggs each added 9 points for the Jags. Eric Burke chipped in 6 while Brody Buck finished with 2 points.
The win brings Shelby Valleys record to 12-5 on the season. The Wildcats win gives them momentum as the go into a huge 59th District matchup on Friday as they host the Pikeville Panthers. The loss drops Floyd Central to 11-6 on the season as they prepare to travel to Louisa to take on the Lawrence County Bulldogs on Friday.
