Martin County Lady Cards defeat Lady Tigers

On Tuesday, the Martin County Lady Cardinals played host to 57th District rivals the Paintsville Lady Tigers. The Lady Cards would avenge their district loss earlier in the season by winning 67-42.

The Lady Cards hot shooting was the difference. They shot 42% from the floor including 5-12 from behind the arch. The Lady Cards were led in scoring by Laken Williams. Williams scored a game high 23 points. Alyssa Allen chipped in 18 points from shooting 2-3 from 3 point land. Katie Marcum added 14 points while shooting an impressive 7-8 from the foul line. Other Lady Cards scoring were Candace Spaulding with 4, Chloe May and Sophie Harless with 3 points each and Brooklyn Marcum added 2 points.

For Paintsville, they struggled offensively this game. The Lady Tigers shot 26% (13-50) from the field and 19% (6-31) from the 3 point line. Kiley Kinner led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 13 and grabbed 10 rebounds while Emilea Preece added 12 points. Other Lady Tigers scoring were Kali Mulcahy with 9, Camryn Helton with 7 and Eliza Howard added 1.

The win brings Martin County’s record to 13-4 on the season and 1-1 in district play. Next up for the Lady Cards, they will travel to Magoffin County on Saturday. The loss drops Paintsville to 9-5 on the season and 2-2 in district play. Paintsville will host Magoffin County on Friday.
