The top-ranked (AAA) Wayne Lady Pioneers used a strong fourth quarter to pull out a hard-fought, 47-39, win over the 10th-ranked (AAA) Logan Lady Wildcats on Thursday at Wayne High School.
In a wild game, the Lady Wildcats (7-8) jumped ahead in the first quarter on the strength of their 3-point shooting. For the game, 10 of 13 field goals were from behind the 3-point arc. Logan led the Lady Pioneers (14-0) by a score of 20-13 after the opening frame. Wayne came roaring back in the second period, outscoring the Lady Wildcats, 15-7, to take a slim 28-27 lead into the locker room at the half.
Logan and Wayne battled back and forth through the third period, leaving the two teams tied, 35-35, leading to the final quarter. The Lady Pioneers lived up to their ranking in the fourth period by outscoring the Lady Wildcats 12-4 to pick up the win.
Laneigh Brooks led the way for Wayne with 18 points. Brooke Adkins followed with 13 points. Mikayla Stacy added 8 points. Addie Adkins had 6 points. Cheyenne Williams chipped in 2 points in the win.
Logan was paced by Natalie Blankenship’s 17 points. Autumn Adkins added 12 points. Addyson Amick followed with 5 points. Halle Crouse netted 3 points. Bam Mosby finished with 2 points.
Wayne next plays on Saturday when it hosts Sissonville in a 7 pm contest. Logan hosts Scott on Monday at 7 pm.
