Lady Golden Eagles Down County Rival Paintsville, 48-38

The Johnson Central Lady Golden Eagles picked up a huge win over county rival Paintsville Lady Tigers, 48-38, on Friday at Paintsville.

The game got off to a competitive start with the Lady Golden Eagles (16-3) holding a 26-19 lead at the intermission. The Lady Tigers (9-5) clawed back in the third period, outscoring Johnson Central 13-6 in the period to tie the score at 32-32. However, the Lady Golden Eagles pulled away down the stretch behind 10 points from Kaylyn McKenzie to pull out the victory.

Kaylyn McKenzie led the way for Johnson Central with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Taylor McKenzie recorded 9 points and 7 rebounds. Haylee Marsillett also had 9 points. McKinley Cantrell and Abbie Stambaugh had 6 points each. Becca Wright dropped in 4 points. Sophie Younce chipped in 1 point and 7 rebounds.

For Paintsville, Kylie Kinner led all scorers with 24 points and pulled down 7 rebounds. Emilea Preece followed with 6 points. Kali Mulcahy dropped in 5 points. Camryn Helton scored 2 points. Emma Keeton chipped in 1 point.

Johnson Central next plays on Friday in a home contest against Russell at 7:30 pm. Paintsville also plays at home on Friday against Magoffin County. The opening tip to that contest is also set for 7:30 pm.
