The Wayne Pioneers used a dominating fourth quarter to defeat the Huntington St. Joe Fighting Irish, 77-52, on Monday at Wayne.
The Pioneers (5-3) jumped out of the gate early and took a 23-12 lead in the first period. The Irish (2-5) clawed back into the game during the second period and only trailed 34-26 at the half. St. Joe and Wayne battled each other hard through the third period, making it at 55-48 game heading into the fourth period. From there, Wayne outscored St. Joe, 22-4, to stretch out the final margin of victory.
Isaac Meddings paced the Pioneers with 22 points. Zane Adkins followed with 14 points. Peyton Marcum added 12 points. Dillon May and Cooper Adkins both recorded 9 points. May also had 9 rebounds, and Cooper Adkins pulled down 13 boards. Ronnie Staley dropped in 8 points. Isaiah Lowe finished with 3 points.
Wayne will next play on Saturday at home against the Scott Skyhawks. The opening tip is set for 7 pm.
St. Joe will next play on Friday at home against Webster County in a 6 pm contest.
