BREAKING NEWS: St. Joe’s Pulls In Former Professional Coach To Lead Irish Football Program

It was a big day for Huntington St. Joe on Thursday as the school named the football coach that will lead the Irish in starting the program. Former professional coach and Marshall University alum Adam Hill was hired to be the school’s football coach since World War II.

Huntington St. Joe Athletics Director Todd Maynard announced Hill’s hiring and expanded on his experience in the football world that he brings to the Irish.

“I am delighted to announce the hiring of St. Joseph Central Catholic High School’s new Football coach, Coach Adam Hill,” said Maynard. “Coach Hill brings to our school’s athletic program an extensive wealth of experience and knowledge in the field of Football, spanning from high school and collegiate level to professional NFL. Coach Hill has held various roles, from Head Football Coach at Howard W. Blake High School, Tampa, FL, Offensive Coordinator and Head Strength Coach for Kentucky Christian University, Grayson, KY, Offensive Quality Control and Offensive Line Coach for the Tampa Bay Storm AFL, Tampa, FL, Assistant Offensive Line Coach and Football Operations for the Tampa Bay Vipers, Tampa, FL, and Community Relations for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers NFL, Tampa, FL, and Assistant Coach at Hocking Hill College, Nelsonville, OH.  

“Coach Hill is an alumnus of Marshall University, earning a Bachelor of Arts while also playing Football for Marshall University. Coach Hill will work closely with Coach and Athletic Director Coach Maynard to bring a Football program to our school. Coach Hill will be relocating to Huntington, WV, with his wife, Greta, and their two children. Please welcome Coach Hill to our school community.”

Among the highlighted coaching stints are stops in the AFL with the Tampa Bay Storm and the XFL with the Tampa Bay Vipers. Hill also served in the Community Relations department for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Irish will play a junior varsity schedule in 2023 before going to a varsity schedule in 2024.

St. Joe also announced the hiring of its middle school coach on Thursday as well. Phil Walker, Jr will take over that position.

Walker is an alum of Marshall University and has high school coaching experience at Fairland and Hurricane. Additionally, Walker has experience coaching collegiately at West Virginia State.

Both of these men will be pivotal in the Irish’s success in getting the football program running.
