Prestonsburg Welcomes Paintsville In A Huge Rematch

The Prestonsburg Blackcats host the Paintsville Tigers in a huge rematch of 15th Region teams.

Prestonsburg (8-4) won the first match on a Grant Varney bucket as time expired to give the Blackcats a 63-61 win over Paintsville (6-6). Prestonsburg snapped a 6-game losing streak to the Tigers with the win and was the first victory over Paintsville since 2012.

The Blackcats were led by sophomore Kaden Allen’s 19 points and 5 rebounds in the first game. And Varney’s buzzer beater helped them overcome the Tigers’ Connor Fugate’s 28 points and 10 rebounds. Fugate is a University of Kentucky baseball commit and is in the running for the D&D Sports Player of the Year. He currently averages 22.2 points per game and 11 rebounds per game.

Prestonsburg has had a remarkable turnaround under first-year head coach Chase Parsley. The Blackcats have already won 8 games this season, eclipsing last year’s 5-23 record. This game looks to be a great matchup that has the potential to go down to the wire.

The opening tip is set for the JV at 6 pm and the varsity at 7:30 pm. You can also catch all of the action at home on D&D Sports via danddsports.com or Facebook.
