In the first round of the Ohio River Classic, Betsy Layne defeated Raceland 50-43. A back and forth contest the two teams entered the half tied at 21. It want until the 3rd quarter the Bobcats pulled away outscoring the Lady Rams by 7 points in the 3rd period to make the difference.
The Lady Cats were led by their impresssive freshman class of Thacker, Pente and Martin. The Lady Cats were lead in scoring by Brookelyn Thacker. Thacker finished with 13 points and was named the games “most valuable player”. Jaden Pente chipped in 12 points including some big free thrown in the final minutes to seal the victory. Other Lady Cats scoring were: Kinleigh Martin with 9, Jayden Jarrell 7, Laci Hall 5, and Haleigh Damron and Laykn Ward with 2 each.
The Lady Rams were led in scoring by Naomi Maynard with 24 points. Kennedy Taylor chipped in with 6 while Reagan Taylor added 5 points in the loss. Others scoring for the Rams included: Peyton Mackie with 4 , Bryna Wellman and Gracie Gartin with 2 each.
The win pushes Betsy Laynes record to 2-8 on the season. They were back in action today at the Ohio River Classic. As for the Lady Rams, the loss drops them to 4-8. Raceland faced off against Magoffin County earlier today.
