The Tug Valley Panthers hit the mat for the first time this season. And while one would expect growing pains with a first year program, head coach Adam Ooten is happy with what his team has accomplished so far.
“All of our kids are first year wrestlers,” said Ooten. “They have all come a long way since the season began. Although we have a lot of work to do, I think they will all be able to hold their own once we get to our regional tournament on February 14.”
Tug Valley has four wrestlers on the team this season. Team captain Michael Curtis wrestles at 132 pounds. Hayden Ball competes at 120 pounds. Brody Hannah holds down the spot at 150 pounds. Keith Marcum wrestles at 190 pounds.
Curtis has led the Panthers this season with a 6-5 record. Marcum is 3-9 on the season. Hannah has a 1-3 record.
Tug Valley recently competed in the Hatfield & McCoy Tournament. While the Panthers didn’t see much success there, it was an opportunity to grow. Tug Valley has been impressive for a program in its first year and there will be many opportunities to keep growing this season.
