The Belfry Lady Pirates pulled away late to defeat the Tug Valley Lady Panthers, 51-42, on Thursday at Belfry.
After a nip and tuck first half, Belfry (5-4) led 25-24 at the half. The Lady Pirates held a 38-35 lead after three periods. The Lady Panthers (3-2) could never quite grab control of the game after that.
The Lady Pirates were led by Karlea Stanley’s 14 points. Clara McNamee added 11 points. Kylie Deboard and Jaaliyah Warren had 9 points apiece. Maci Maynard dropped in 4 points. Abbi Vipperman and Makaylin Meade finished with 2 points each.
Kenzie Browning paced Tug Valley with 15 points. Bailee Hall followed with 12 points. Haven Deskins added 10 points. Michele Swan scored 5 points in the loss.
Belfry will next play Hazard on Wednesday in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic. Tipoff is set for 3:30 pm at Belfry.
Tug Valley’s next scheduled game is set for Friday, January 6 when it hosts Calhoun County for a 7 pm contest.
