Ashland Defeats Pike County Central For 5th Place in PIT

The Ashland Tomcats jumped out early and never looked back as they defeated the Pike County Central Hawks, 68-45, on Thursday in the 5th place game of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament.

The Tomcats (6-4) jumped out to a 16-7 lead after the first quarter and extended the advantage to 34-22 at the half. The lead continued to grow, as Ashland led the Hawks (6-3), 51-33, heading into the final period.

Zander Carter led the Tomcats with 20 points and 7 rebounds. Tucker Conway added 15 points. Rheyce DeBoard fired in 14 points. Tristin Davis and Tyson LaLonde dropped in 6 points each. Braxton Jennings scored 4 points. LaBryant Strader added 2 points. Asher Adkins chipped in 1 point.

The Hawks were paced by Jaden Stewart’s 21 points and 9 rebounds. Jaylan Rigdon added 10 points. Peyton Compton scored 7 points. Camron Stafford fired in 3 points. Isaac Reynolds and Peyton Owens chipped in 2 points each.

Ashland will host Simon Kenton on Wednesday in the opening round of the Ashland Invitational tournament at 7 pm.

Pike County Central will play Breathitt County on Thursday in the Mountain Schoolboy Classic at Belfry High School. The opening tip is set for 5 pm.
