The Pikeville Panthers advanced to the second round of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Wednesday by defeating the Perry County Central Commodores, 74-70, in Pikeville.
The Panthers (4-2) got out to a hot start, outscoring the the Commodores (6-5), 23-14, in the first quarter. Pikeville extended the lead to 40-26 at the half. The Panthers led 61-43 after three periods. A furious Commodore rally came up short as Perry County Central outscored Pikeville, 27-13, over the final quarter.
Rylee Samons paced the Panthers with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. Charlie Fitzer added 23 points and 13 rebounds. Heath Jarrell followed with 15 points and 7 assists. Josh Hughes had 8 points and 7 assists. Eli Johnson chipped in 2 points.
Perry County Central was led by Rydge Beverly’s 22 points. Trayten Woods added 18 for the Commodores.
Pikeville plays in the finals of the Pikeville Invitational Tournament on Thursday.
